The trade deadline has passed, and NHL fans and pundits across the league are now sifting through all the stories of near-miss trades and offer that was sent that never materialized. One such offer was made by the Edmonton Oilers for San Jose Sharks star Timo Meier.
In the second intermission, Sportsnet insiders Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman discuss a trade offer made by general manager Ken Holland to the San Jose Sharks for Timo Meier. The story goes that the Oilers were willing to make the trade and worry about the logistics of signing him later on in the summer.
That's certainly interesting as the Oilers have been involved with numerous trade rumours throughout the last few weeks and Timo Meier's name was not mentioned once.
Since this seems to be true that shows that general manager Ken Holland seems to have wanted to go for a much larger name. Unfortunately for the Oilers, the New Jersey Devils were the winners of the Timo Meier sweepstakes.
The Oilers decided instead to go for defence, and picked up Mattias Ekholm from the Nashville Predators at the cost of their top quarterback power play defenceman Tyson Barrie.
