During a recent edition of Insider Trading on TSN, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reveals the shocking price tag for pending unrestricted free agent Mikko Rantanen's services.

It's a number that some pundits across the league felt that he may look for, but it appears that $14 million per season will be the asking price for the Avalanche superstar. There are several factors to why he may think he is worth this money as he has a Stanley Cup ring to start.

The 28-year-old winger who was in the prime of his career has been spectacular with his game and his stats as he has been a constant producer of points for the avalanche since he began with the team in 2015.

His numbers have helped the Avalanche secure the playoffs numerous times and over the last two seasons he has had over 100 points had scored 99 goals.

This season is no different as he has played 23 games, have scored fourteen goals with 18 assists for 32 points. Being a contract year, it's safe to say that he will have another 100-point season barring any major injuries.

The Avalanche are looking to get back to where they were as a perennial Stanley Cup contender, and they will need Rantanen's services to do it.

With Oilers Leon Draisaitl who has produced similar numbers on a steady basis for the team, secured a contract of 14,000,000 per season for eight years this past September, Rantanen is certainly comparable.

Many have felt including 32 Thoughts Podcaster Elliotte Friedman that with the salary cap due to skyrocket over the next two seasons with the potential of being over $100 million it's likely Rantanen will wait and see how the cap works itself out.

This means the Avalanche will need to wait and see if he chooses to sign with them or look elsewhere as virtually every team in the NHL will try to sign him to a new contract.

It'll come down to what team can afford a contract that size which would include pulling apart their roster to make it happen.
