Former Oilers coach named leading candidate for Ottawa Senators job
This season for the Ottawa Senators has been one of the worst in their history. The team has gone through a long transition with new ownership and a new general manager who has a former Oilers head coach as the frontrunner before the job.
Todd McClellan, who had spent four seasons with the Oilers during his coaching career seems to be a candidate that has high interest for general manager Steve Staios.
McClellan does bring experience along with playoff experience as he has made the playoffs 9 times behind the bench. McHe has 598 wins and he is well respected among players throughout the league and Staios himself.
Many felt that the Ottawa Senators were a team that were ready to take the next step and become a perennial playoff contender. Former general manager Pierre Dorion brought in talent including
Vladimir Tarasenko, goaltender
Joonas Korpisalo to help the young cast but it was to no avail and the team remains well below the playoff contention.
Perhaps an experienced voice like Mclellan could turn their fortunes around.
