Insider Elliotte Friedman was the first to report the news. Givani Smith from the San Jose Sharks and Joey Anderson from the Chicago Blackhawks were also included.
Caleb Jones was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the fourth round of the 2015 Draft. He spent several seasons developing in the Oilers minor league system before making the jump to the NHL in the 2018-19 season.
Jones went on to play parts of three seasons with the Oilers as a depth defenceman, often producing quality analytical results.
In July of 2021, Jones was part of the trade with the Chicago Blackhawks that brought Duncan Keith to the Edmonton Oilers.
Since departing Edmonton, Jones' stock as a player has taken a hit. With the rebuilding Blackhawks no player looked good, and he was bounced back down to the AHL as a result.
Now 27 years old with the Los Angeles Kings, it's looking possible that Jones is nearing the end of his NHL career.
The Kings are keeping young depth defenders like Jacob Moverare and Jordan Spence over Jones, which may not be a good sign for where his game is at nowadays. Caleb Jones is also the brother of Blackhawks star defender Seth Jones.
The Edmonton Oilers are in the market to acquire a defenceman this season, but there should be no chance of a waiver claim here. The left side of the blue line is stacked with quality talent, with Troy Stecher and Ty Emberson proving to be quality depth contributors.
All three players on waivers are relatively fringe players who will likely go unclaimed, and report to their AHL teams. Hopefully Jones is able to land on his feet and keep pushing for another opportunity in the NHL.
