Now 41 years old and hosting the Dropping the Gloves Podcast, Scott mentioned returning to the San Jose Sharks in a recent episode.
Scott only played 286 career games with 7 different teams, including only 38 games with the San Jose Sharks. He must've made a great impression with the team or their fans for him to be seemingly announcing a triumphant return to the team. It's unclear in what capacity he'll be returning to San Jose, whether it's as a coaching or executive role, a one day contract, or something else. Regardless, fans of fighting in hockey will be dialled into seeing what Scott's up to.
Perhaps the most famous moment of Scott's career was his nomination to the All Star Game when he was with the Phoenix Coyotes in 2015-16. Scott was voted in by the fans as a joke, which promoted Gary Bettman to take action and demand the Coyotes send Scott to the AHL. Scott was sent down, but fans still clamoured until he had to be included.
The Sharks will be a team to watch in the coming years as they start to graduate prospects from their rebuild, and try to create a culture of winning again. We'll see if the Sharks think John Scott has a role in that in the coming weeks.
