Many fans feel like MacLean has begun to show his age too much on the broadcast, creating some bizarre and awkward moments. However, YYZSportsMedia and other sources have hinted that MacLean will stay on the broadcast for at least the next two years, until Sportsnet's deal with the NHL expires.
Maclean has spent the last 38 years in the Hockey Night Broadcast, joining it all the way back in 1986. For decades he hosted the infamous Coach's Corner segment with Don Cherry, until some controversial comments from Cherry ended the show in 2019. Since then, many fans have soured on MacLean for allegedly turning his back on Cherry, and he has begun to just create several awkward moments that haven't made him any new fans.
Marek's dismissal from Sportsnet seemingly had more to do with the investigation from the Nevada Gaming Commission about Marek sharing insider information among other media members - a ridiculous reason for a firing. However, still Sportsnet is reportedly planning more cuts to their on-air personalities, as the company is in major financial loss with their NHL deal.
Hockey media in Canada is certainly looking at a massive shake up in the coming years. Hopefully it turns out to be a better and more entertaining broadcast for fans.
