Corey Perry joined the Edmonton Oilers last season after his contract with the Chicago Blackhawks was terminated due to an undisclosed incident.

Yesterday, Blackhawks reporter Mark Lazerus was asked for additional information in a mailbag column. Lazerus confirmed that he knows more specifics about the incident, but feels like he needs more to go public with a story. To that point, he's not sure the specifics of the incident will ever come to light.

"I've been asked "what really happened" by my poker buddies, my cardiologist and my own family. My response is always the same: We've reported what we can report. Do we know more than you do? Yes. But the bar to clear is very high when it comes to sensitive stories like this one. Until we have every detail of the story (not merely dribs and drabs), backed up and corroborated by sufficient sources, we won't report any of them. And we may never."

"A better question, one I really want to know: How much do the Edmonton Oilers know? Just scratching the surface here. I'll have Part 2 of the mailbag soon."

It's also very interesting that Lazerus raised the question of if the Edmonton Oilers were fully informed of the incident with Perry. When the Oilers announced the signing, they said they had done their due diligence and the NHL had cleared Perry for a return.

There were crazy rumours floating around Perry's departure from the Blackhawks, from a relationship with Bedard's mother and an alcohol related incident. Tori this point, everything has been pure speculation, and no real details have been made public.

After the highly public contract termination and rumours flying, Corey Perry settled in and became a great piece for the Oilers bottom six. He played 38 regular season games and 19 playoff games, bringing some scoring to the fourth line and his pest presence every time he was on the ice. The Oilers brought him back for next season on a $1.15M contract, hoping that the 40 year old can bring it for one more year. At the very least, he'll bring valuable experience to the team.
