Jeff Marek makes statement after being fired by Sportsnet
Yesterday, news broke that Sportsnet has cut ties with prominent analyst Jeff Marek, and today he's finally made a statement.
After 13 great years at Sportsnet, I'm moving on. It's been an incredible journey and I'm thankful to have worked alongside so many great people and played a role in bringing sports and hockey news to fans across Canada and the world. More to come soon.
- Jeff
Right after the NHL Draft, Jeff Marek stopped appearing on any Sportsnet productions, and made no statements on social media through free agency. Fans started to become concerned from him personally, missing major events in the hockey season. Marek will be most notably missed for his hosting on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, as well as his daily radio show on Sportsnet.
Elliotte Friedman made a statement as well, saying he will miss being teammates with Jeff Marek and thanking him for his time spent with Sportsnet - but the Podcast will go on.
Life throws curveballs at you. I will miss being his teammate, and thank him for being a tremendous co-pilot on the start to our 32 Thoughts podcasting voyage which will continue.
In the initial report, YYZSportsMedia cited unconfirmed Draft reasons' as the cause behind Marek's release from Sportsnet. Judging by Marek's statement, it doesn't seem like any serious transgression happened, so he'll be back working in hockey media soon. Whoever hires Marek will be getting one of the best in the business.
