The Winnipeg Jets are looking to trade their top prospect Rutger McGroarty after he essentially forced his way off the team, and today GM Kevin Cheveldayoff openly ripped him for ditching the team.

Cheveldayoff was praising prospect Brad Lambert for his effort and attendance at development camp, and took the opportunity to make it more about McGroarty.

«It says a lot about a player like Brad Lambert who doesn't have to come here but wants to come here and be a part of it and take on that leadership role."

McGroarty was drafted 14th overall by the Jets in 2022, and is forcing a trade out of Winnipeg this offseason because he's upset with the team's handling of his development. McGroarty believed he should've been in the NHL this season, and thinks the Jets aren't properly deploying him,

Plenty of fans and media have criticized McGraorty himself for forcing a way out of the organization and trying to impose lineup decisions as a rookie. Some have even called it red flags for his behaviour, and could be something that follows him around through his career. Wherever McGroarty is traded to, he better make good on his assertion that he's an NHL star.
