It's rare to see players speak candidly about a game in post-game interviews, but it's always very interesting when a player decides to comment on the officiating in the game. Nazem Kadri decided to speak his mind after he was assessed a penalty on a crucial play, where he clearly wasn't happy with the call:
Nazem Kadri was upset with the call, stating that the Flames had the game taken from them. Because he is calling out the officiating directly, he may be given a fine for his statement.
Despite being upset about the loss, the Flames have nothing to be disappointed about with the way they've been playing. They came into the season as a team who was expected to place poorly, they've been playing very well, sitting at 5-1-1.
Fighting along with them are the Winnipeg Jets, who currently sit at 8-0-0. They are the last undefeated team, of the year, and were also somewhat underrated heading into the season.
Both teams are playing well, but still have their flaws. Calgary has dropped their last three, and still could start losing if their defense core starts getting weaker.
As for the Jets, we've seen this all before. The Jets have often challenged for the division in December, only to slip back down the standings when January starts. We'll have to see if either team can keep exceeding expectations, or if either are just staying as pretenders.
It's always controversial when a player speaks out so openly against the refereeing, so we'll have to see if there's any additional consequences for Kadri.
