During the first period of tonight's Edmonton Oilers game, you might have seen a bizarre glitch pop along the screen, and you weren't alone.

Around five minutes into the first as an Oiler retrieved the puck from behind the net, Sportsnet cut to a multicoloured glitch image with a soccer ball floating along the screen. It only lasted a second, but it was jarring enough for fans to notice and share the glitch online.

It was an absurd sight to see for a second during a tied hockey game, and absolutely hilarious considering the mistake that someone made at Sportsnet. Some employee might get shown the door for that mistake.

Overall, Sportsnet has had a rough opening to the NHL season so far. Their opening night panel was clearly below the expected standard with their B-Crew, and on the first editions of hockey night in Canada this year, plenty of fans weren't thrilled to see Ron MacLean on the broadcast. For all the money fans pay to access the services, there absolutely should be a better standard delivered.

At the end of the day though, this is just simply a hilarious glitch that fans can have a decent chuckle at.

The Oilers are looking to gut out their first win of the year against a rebuilding Blackhawks team, also looking for their first win. With a looming back to back, the Oilers are starting their backup Calvin Pickard, and through the first half of the game it was too close for comfort for the Oilers. Hopefully this game will be a bounce back for the team after a disappointing opening night loss.
