When speaking to the media today, McDavid revealed that Oilers powerplay coach Glen Gulutzan will often stress to the Oilers to improvise on the powerplay, especially when his coaching tactics aren't working.
McDavid stressed that the Panthers penalty kill has figured out the Oilers powerplay, but he doesn't believe that will last for long. The Oilers have solved every other special teams battle in the NHL this season, and McDavid says it's just a matter of time before they break through against the Panthers.
That said, McDavid stressed his belief in the group even after they went down in Florida in Game 2. The Oilers have bounced back from near last place this year, and the Captain believes they can do it again.
So far Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have combined for only one point in the Stanley Cup Final, and if that continues, the Oilers will have no chance of winning. McDavid's right that it's only a matter of time before the Oilers break through, but they can't lose any more than two games for the rest of the series. If the Oilers are improvising, they better find a way to succeed, or they may wish there was a plan after all.
Sergei Bobrovsky has also been the story of the series, but that can't hold much longer if the Oilers have a chance of winning - they need to find a way to get pucks by him. With home ice advantage tomorrow night, the Oilers will need every boost they can get from fans to knock the Panthers off their game, and get their first win in this series.
