Moments ago, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun dropped a bombshell report that the Winnipeg Jets are nearly complete a trade to acquire Sean Monahan from the Montreal Canadiens.

UPDATE:

Now confirmed, the Jets paid a first round draft pick and another conditional pick for Monahan.

At the moment, the return for Monahan is unknown, but it was believed to be no less than a first round draft pick. After the Canucks made their move to acquire Elias Lindholm, it seems other teams are looking to make their trades now before getting beat by others.

In 49 games with the Habs this season, Monahan has been significant improved from last seasons, scoring 13 goals and 35 points. It's his second season with the Canadiens after playing nine seasons with the Calgary Flames - the team he was drafted sixth overall by in 2013.

With the Jets having incredible success so far this season, Monahan will be a valuable addition as a depth centreman, but also as a player that has the capacity to move up in the lineup.
