Insider reports Chris Tanev trade nearing completion
The Calgary Flames have been one of the most active teams over the past several weeks as they have signalled to the NHL that major changes are coming to their roster and many players are available.
Chris Tanev has been at the top of the list as the most sought-after defenceman as his play has been soaring.
The Athletic's hockey insider Pierre LeBrun was a guest on TSN's Insider Trading and broke the news that a trade for Tanev is close to completion while announcing a front runner, the Dallas Stars.
Over the past few seasons, the Dallas Stars feel that they have been ready to win a Stanley Cup. After knocking on the door in the COVID year of 2020 and losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning, general manager Jim Nill has continued to push forward while trying to close the gap for his roster.
If successful, adding Tanev will be a huge boost to their defence core which is what they feel is missing the most for their team. While others including the Oilers, Leafs, Avalanche and Canucks would like to add Tanev's services, the cost may be too high where the Stars are willing to bite.
The trade deadline ends on March 8th at 3:00 PM eastern time.
