The Flames, in particular, have had a terrible start, currently sitting 6th in the Pacific Division with a record of 3-7-1. With such a poor start, wild rumours have begun circulating in the NHL regarding what these teams will do to turn their seasons around.
Elliott Friedman of the "32 Thoughts" podcast shared his insights on what the Flames might do and mentioned that three of their defensemen have been placed on the trading block to see if any suitors are willing to help reinvigorate their team.
He also noted that it would be amusing if the Calgary Flames were to assist the Maple Leafs and Oilers by helping them out of their predicament.
In the case of the Maple Leafs, Brad Treliving, who was recently hired as the new general manager of the team, served as the head of the Calgary Flames for nine seasons. He possesses intimate knowledge of these players and was once the boss of Craig Conroy, who is now the GM of the Flames.
With the Flames struggling, I anticipate a fire sale (pun intended), where the team will undergo a major restructuring since the current system is not effective.
It remains to be seen whether the Oilers will attempt to acquire talent from their provincial opponents to the South.
