The Flames are moving into rebuild mode, and that's is often when a GM is most active. The Flames have made it clear they're trying to sell before the deadline, and have some very interesting pieces to move. However today the news came out that the Flames have made a waiver claim, which could spell out some very interesting moves in the future for the Flames.
Brayden Pachal has been the epitome of just okay, as he was an undrafted free agent so he didn't have many expectations anyway. He did hold the captaincy for the Henderson Silver Knights however, so he does have a good leadership presence.
The interesting part about the claim is not the player they got, but the fact that Pachal is another RHD to add to the Flames. The Flames now roster 4 RHD and LHD on their roster, which brings a lot of freedom for them to move out bigger players before the deadline. With the acquisition of another RHD it all but signifies that Chris Tanev is out the door, even though he already seemingly is on the way out.
With this it all but confirms that Tanev is gone, and now all eyes are on GM Craig Conroy to get some moves done. Another player that could be moved is Noah Hanifin, as that would give Calgary some assets back for their expiring contracts who have already expressed desires to leave at their first chance.
