Last night, Connor McDavid saved the Oilers night with an unbelievably clutch solo effort to tie the game at 1-1 against Detroit. Halfway through the third period, McDavid made a brilliant hesitation move at the offensive zone blue line to wait for the play to be on-side, then sped in the zone to split the defence and make an incredible move on the goaltender to finish off the goal.

After the game, the media had to ask several members of the Oilers and Red Wings their thoughts on the goal, and in particular, Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde and Oilers forward Zach Hyman gave brilliant analysis of the goal.

Lalonde spoke about how the Wings reviewed the play at length, but determined the play to be onside - to which Lalonde credited McDavid's brilliant hockey IQ. As the puck came to McDavid, he hesitated and waited for Hyman to tag the blue line before touching the puck and making the explosive move to the net.

100% onside. As great as the play was by Connor McDavid, his hockey IQ to not touch the puck, I don't know how many players can think it through like that.

Zach Hyman described the okay from his perspective on the ice, describing McDavid looking at him like Get out' and urging Hyman to clear the zone. Hyman laughed about the play, and praised McDavid for the talent as well.

It was an incredible goal from McDavid, one that'll likely be on his career highlight reel for one of his most impressive of all time, and it's great to see immediate recognition for it.
