The Edmonton Oilers are taking on the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight on the road, but the team's travel to Toronto was anything but ordinary due to Taylor Swift.

The morning after McDavid scored his 1000tg career point, the Oilers had to be up to catch an earlier flight than usual to Toronto. Not only that, but the Oilers were unable to stay in their usual hotel in Toronto, according to a recent report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman.

»The Oilers, they couldn't stay at their regular hotel because they couldn't get in there. I know some people down there, and they say it's bananas in our city."
- Elliotte Friedman, 32 Thoughts

When being interviewed after today's morning skate, Connor McDavid even brought up the Taylor Swift hype and routine changes unprompted.

REPORTER: What have the last 48 hours been like for you? Such a big milestone, it sounded like you were pretty emotional.

MCDAVID: Well, yeah. It's just been, trying to get to Toronto. That was it, it was a quick turnaround. Grabbed the plane early trying to beat all the Taylor Swift traffic. We managed to do it. It's cool to see the city so excited.

REPORTER: Are you a fan?

MCDAVID: She's got some great songs, yeah.

It's truly hilarious to hear McDavid immediately downplay his incredible career milestone of 1000 points and immediately talk about Taylor Swift traffic, but that's the life of a professional athlete. The turnaround is instantaneous, because the next game becomes the only focus.

Hockey players are notoriously creatures of habit that can be significantly disrupted by any major changes, so hopefully the team was consulted on the travel changes and it won't affect their game day prep.

Against the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight, Connor McDavid admitted that playing in his hometown in front of friends and family will mean a little more to him. Riding high after his 1000th point, McDavid could go off for a dominant game tonight.
