According to a rumour circulating online from an Oilers fan, the team's ownership is pushing for Jack Michaels to be on playoff games and national broadcasts.
Currently, Harnaryan Singh is the national broadcaster for the Edmonton Oilers, but fans for a long time have been clamouring for Jack Michaels on the biggest stage. Singh is a great broadcaster on his own, but Michaels has a deep connection with fans that's fitting for the biggest games. Sportsnet officially announced the Oilers regional broadcast crew last week.
Jack Michaels became the voice of the Oilers in 2010, and since then has taken off to become one of the bests play by play voices in hockey. Michaels' calls are often frantic and chaotic which really captures the energy swings of the games. He's also unashamedly rooting for Edmonton to win, and lets his fan emotions colour his calls. It creates an incredibly entertaining product that absolutely deserves to be in the playoffs and big Saturday Night games.
One of Michaels' most memorable calls came last season when the Oilers clinched their Stanley Cup Final appearance with a win over the Dallas Stars at home. The final minute of the game was incredible, and Michaels' call perfectly captured the energy.
It would be great to hear that Oilers ownership is listening to fans and taking action on their suggestions. Oilers fans have petitioned Sportsnet for years to get Michaels into the playoffs, and if it got a boost from Oilers ownership, it seems like the petitions may finally have worked.
The Edmonton Oilers will begin their regular season just 14 days from now with a home game against the Winnipeg Jets. Gear up Oilers fans, Hockey is finally back!
