It was a positive sign that no skater took Arvidsson's place on the second line during practice, as it shows the Oilers aren't expecting him to be out long term. Knoblauch said after practice that Arvidsson may miss only one game, and the Oilers will either play 7 defenceman or call up a forward from the AHL.
Knoblauch will speak to General Manager Stan Bowman, and the two will make a decision that makes the most sense.
7 defenceman seems to be the more probably outcome simply because it won't force a roster move, and could just give the Oilers a chance to double shift some forwards - like Connor McDavid looking for his 1000th point.
It may not make much sense to call up a player like Noah Philp or James Hamblin just for one game, disrupt their rhythm in the AHL schedule, and send them back afterward.
There may be a larger concern among Oilers fans about Arvidsson's health as a whole. He's been a consistent offensive producer through his 11 year career, but Arvidsson has only twice played more than 60 games in a season.
Also in the news at Oilers practice, Knoblauch will be inserting Travis Dermott into the lineup for the team's next game, and Calvin Pickard will get the start in net.
Hopefully this is just a minor injury, and Arvidsson will be back quickly - he's just beginning to develop some chemistry with Draisaitl on the second line.
