As the Oilers season goes from bad to worse with the recent loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets and the potential long-term loss of Connor McDavid, TSN insider Darren Dreger reports the general manager Stan Bowman is working the phones to make a trade.

Dreger was a guest on Edmonton Sports Talk who explained that Bowman is trying to find options to help his beleaguered lineup as the team continues its woeful start an many of their top players struggling to get their season on track.

«The word on the street is that [Bowman] is working more aggressively trying to find some help,» Dreger revealed during his hit. «I don't think there is anything magical coming from the General Manager's office, but I do think the ingredients are there for this team to be much better than what we've seen here.»

With many troubles up and down the lineup including the poor performance of Zach Hyman this season with no goals, along with Stuart Skinner having an awful night against the Blue Jackets where he had a .760 save percentage and new signings like Viktor Arvidsson who has no goals through 10 games and is a - 2.

The most troubling news is the loss of Connor McDavid who Oiler fans and their teammates are awaiting the news to see how long he will be out after suffering a lower body injury during the opening shift of the Columbus game last night.

Many pundits felt that the Oilers were comfortable with their defence core after making serious alterations including a trade of Cody Ceci To the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Ty Emberson who has yet to look ready for full time work with the Oilers.

The likelihood of trades happening this early in the season is not unheard of but rare but there are teams out there who are looking potentially to make deals who have players in abundance who could help the Oilers including the Toronto Maple Leafs who have several players ready to come off long term injury reserve and a rarely used defenseman in Timothy Liljegren who has a right-handed shot.

Time will tell but in the meantime, Bowman will scour the league and the Oilers will need to dig deeper and figure out how to get themselves out of this mess.
