According to the Oilers, a total of 1,131 hats were collected off the ice in the third period. It was a truly massive celebration, and there's no one more deserving in game one of the playoffs to receive it than the hard-working fan favourite Zach Hyman. It seemed that for minutes, the hats kept pouring down.
Hyman gave a great post game interview, and cracked a joke saying his game was great for the Oilers store.' More than talking about his individual success though, Hyman stressed the great effort from the team particularly in a game one. He even called out the team yesterday expecting a big performance, and certainly delivered with a hat trick of his own.
The entire Oilers arena was at its absolute peak last night. Along with the celebrating for Hyman, the fans relentlessly taunted opposing goalie Cam Talbot. On the operations side, staff was firing out Donald out of T-shirt cannons as well. Everything was simply fantastic.
All around, it was a dominant performance from the Oilers in game one, taking an early lead on the Kings and never letting them get back in it. The Oilers will look to continue that level of play on Wednesday night, and take a 2-0 series lead heading back to Los Angeles.
