Knoblauch confirmed that he's suffered a setback from his expected recovery time, and is now considered out indefinitely.
Viktor Arvidsson missed a practice on November 14th and Knoblauch initially described it as a maintenance day, something that obviously didn't turn out to be true. Arvidsson will now miss at least 10 games with this undisclosed injury.
There's been concerns that Viktor Arvidsson is an injury-prone player throughout his career. In 11 seasons in the NHL, he's only played more than 66 games 3 times.
On top of that, there may be some frustration from the Oilers and their fans of Arvidsson's underwhelming production in the lineup. In 16 games this season, he's only scored 2 goals and 5 points - on pace for a career low of 10 goals.
However, Team Sweden named Viktor Arvidsson to their 4 Nations Faceoff roster yesterday. That could actually be a positive sign for the Oilers, as Sweden could have some good news on the long-term projection of his injury.
Thankfully, the Oilers did get some positive news on the injury front today with Zach Hyman making his return to the lineup tonight. His addition to the first line should be a big help to adding scoring outside McDavid and Draisaitl.
At the end of the day, the Oilers would prefer to have Arvidsson in the lineup now, but if he's healthy and can produce come playoff time then he'll be worth the signing. Hopefully at this point, Arvidsson can salvage his season upon his return.
