Right now, the Edmonton Oilers are playing an absolute stinker of a game against the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets. In just the first period the Jackets got a 2-0 lead on the Oilers, and one of their newest players decided he'd try to spark the team with a spirited fight at center ice.

Carrick squared off with Mathieu Olivier from the Jackets, who is a prolific fight himself. Carrick more than hung in the fight, he landed some of the hardest blows in the fight - one strong enough to pop off Olivier's bucket. It was a spirited fight, and it could've been the two settling scores from a previous matchup they had just a few months ago.

With this fight, Carrick is showing off one of the biggest things he can bring to this Oilers team in the playoffs - toughness and physicality in the bottom six. It'll be a good first impression to show willingness to drop the gloves against a tough player, and this will earn him some goodwill from both the coach and the team.

The Oilers acquired Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks just yesterday for a first round draft pick and and additional later pick. Both players will add great forward depth to the team in their playoff push, and will likely be their biggest trade of the deadline this year.
