Patrick Kane leaves game with extremely concerning injury
During the first period of tonight's game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings, star forward Patrick Kane was forced to leave the game in just the first period. Now it's been confirmed Kane will not return due to a lower body injury, leaving some serious concerns about his health.
While going to the net, Kane collided with Leafs forward
Pontus Holmberg which sent him falling and sliding into the boards, with the most of the being taken contact on his hips. Holmberg appeared to slewfoot Kane, sending him both into the net and down to the ice with force.
Soon after, the Red Wings released a statement confirming the lower body injury and that Kane would not return to the game.
At 35 years old and coming off of a tough hip surgery, anytime Kane sustains this kind of impactful injury will lead to extreme concerns about his return. The type of injury and hip surgery Kane had is famously tough to recover from.
So far this season, Kane has been one of the most impactful offensive producers on the Red Wings. In 18 games, Kane already has 7 goals and 16 points. Being one of the best players on the team, the Red Wings will be needing him to have a quick recovery to stay afloat. Hopefully, Kane can recover quickly from whatever injury he sustained on the play, and can help the Wings battle for a playoff spot down the stretch.
UPDATE: Moments ago, Elliotte Friedman provided a very positive update on Kane's injury, being that it isn't hip related.
