In breaking news moments ago, the Buffalo Sabres have announced that the team has removed their star centre-man Tage Thompson from the roster, placing him on the non-roster list due to personal reasons.

Thompson missed the Sabres game last night against Buffalo for the same reasoning, and the team has yet to provide much more information. It's known that Thompson's wife is expecting a child, so fans will be hoping that everyone is healthy.

Last season, Thompson's breakout offensive year helped the Sabres even threaten a playoff spot for the first time in years. In 78 games, Thompson scored 47 goals and 94 points. This season his production has dipped, maybe dealing with these personal issues, only scoring 9 goals and 19 points in 26 games. Clearly, Thompson's success is critical to the team's ability to win games.

If Thompson has to miss much more time on the non-roster list, the Sabres already dim playoff hopes will be harder and harder to rekindle. Hopefully, Thompson and his family are both okay, and he can return to the Sabres soon.
