We had a huge trade out of no where Monday night, when the Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin traded away the Canucks captain Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders for Anthony Beauvillier, prospect Aatu Raty and a first round pick in this summer's NHL draft.

There's been rumors floating around, especially after Canucks Jim Rutherford said "he didn't think the Canucks could afford to re-sign Horvat". Sportsnet Hockey Insider Elliotte Friedman believed Horvat was going to the Boston Bruins at the trade deadline, but with the Islanders still hoping to make the playoffs, they believe this deal could help them do that.

Horvat was clearly caught off-guard by the trade. During his social call Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun would reveal Horvat said:

"I thought I would be a Canuck for life. But quickly added he is now excited to be a New York Islander."

Horvat said that several times.

It's clear Horvat didn't expect to be heading to New York, but I'm sure he's excited to go somewhere he feels wanted after the Canucks made their choice by signing Jt Miller long term. He also did not hint at an extension with the Islanders, but stated he'll leave it up to his agent which is not a good sign for Islanders fans.

Horvat: No extension talks with @NYIslanders yet. "We'll see if we can something done, but I'll leave it up to Pat [Morris] to handle that."
