Gallant has had two excellent regular season records, well over 100 point seasons along with a conference final loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning last year and a first-round exit this year.
With that said, the Rangers felt they needed a new voice and a new direction for their team many former players and coaches are on the list of interest.
One of those names happens to be former Oilers and Rangers superstar Mark Messier. Messier is no stranger to winning the Cup as he won five with the Oilers and one with the Rangers including ending the 54-year drought for that team.
The Rangers have said that they will begin their search immediately as they scour the league to see who would be available and fit their narrative. Bruce Boudreau and Peter Laviolette are also mentioned in this list.
My gut feeling tells me, that Gerald Gallant will not be on the unemployment line for long.
