However, Ekholm and Bouchard quickly became a fan favorite and one of the Oilers' best defensive pairings.
They consistently deny zone entries at a rate of 16%, according to NHL_Sid, and both excel at dump-in retrievals and controlled zone exits. Bouchard is also an excellent power-play contributor.
Considering their all-around skills and transition play, disrupting this pairing may not be in the team's best interest.
