The Edmonton Oilers have experienced a turnaround in recent years, largely thanks to some fortunate lottery luck during the draft. The team struck gold in 2015, winning the lottery and securing Connor McDavid. However, their draft history hasn't been without its blunders. Let's take a look at six selections that still make Oilers fans cringe.

In 2003, with the 22nd pick, the Oilers chose Marc-Antoine Pouliot, missing out on Ryan Kesler (taken by the Canucks) and Mike Richards (picked by the Flyers). Both players went on to have successful careers, leaving Oilers fans wondering what could have been.

The following year, in the same draft, the Oilers passed on Corey Crawford, who was selected by the Blackhawks right after they took Colin McDonald. Crawford became a reliable goaltender, helping the Blackhawks win multiple Stanley Cups.

In 2007, the Oilers missed a golden opportunity when they selected Riley Nash instead of Max Pacioretty. Nash had a decent career, but Pacioretty emerged as a top goal scorer, leaving Oilers fans with regrets.

In 2016, the Oilers opted for Jesse Puljujarvi over Matthew Tkachuk, a decision they likely wish they could reverse. Tkachuk's impressive performances for the Flames have highlighted the Oilers' misstep.

Finally, in 2019, the Oilers picked Philip Broberg over Trevor Zegras, who went on to showcase exceptional skills and offensive prowess with the Anaheim Ducks.

While the Oilers have found success with McDavid, these missed opportunities serve as reminders of what might have been.
