With the season on the verge of completion, all playoff bound teams are expected to be ready to compete for the Stanley Cup. It appears however, that head coach Jared Bednar of the Avalanche is losing confidence in his number one goaltender Alexandar Georgiev. He spoke to the press after their latest loss against the Vegas Golden Knights.

This latest loss has been amplified these comments as the Avalanche were up 3-0 and had full control of the game through two periods of play. Everything came undone in the 3rd as the golden Knights scored four unanswered goals including the overtime winner by Tomas Hertl.

The former Rangers starter's rights were traded to the Avs in exchange for a third round and fifth round pick in 2022 and a third round in 2023. He signed by the Avalanche and gave the team a strong performance in 2022-2023.

This season however his win column has been steady but his save percentage and goals against have not. They went from 2.53 goals against in 2022 to balloon to 3.02 this season. His save percentage was .919 and now this year it's .897.

This is a cause of great concern for Bednar and the avalanche as this team is expected to be a Stanley Cup contender and a key component of the team success is Georgiev of having a strong playoff. Over his past five games, he has let in an eye watering 22 goals against. That is not Stanley Cup playoff caliber goaltending.

The stage is set, and the Avalanche will be playing the Winnipeg Jets in the first round. With Connor Hellebucyk at the other end, it's safe to say the Jets have the goaltender advantage hands down.
