According to Ed Robertson of Calgary Sports and Entertainment, the SaddleDome will don a new jumbotron next season.

This has raised questions to why the organization would like to replace this piece of equipment when they intend to replace the entire arena as it was announced on April 25th, 2023, that the proposed Calgary Event Centre will to be built for a cost of $1.22 billion.

This new arena will have multiple aspects of itself including a planned arena, indoor rink along with plazas as the city of Calgary will revitalize their downtown core. It was also revealed that the city will pay $537 million while the Flames owners and the province will look after $356 million and $300 million over three years.

These upgrades are long overdue as the Saddledome is considered out of date and one of the oldest arenas in the NHL Network. With the organization completely in turmoil after several prominent players had left the organization through free agency or request for trade, the hope is that this new arena will help stabilize the franchise and attract players to the organization.

While Flames fans and the ownership are eager to get into their new building, it's expected that the Event Centre will be open to the public for the 2027-2028 NHL season.
