The Edmonton Oilers are in an extremely tough salary cap situation after two offer sheets from the St. Louis Blues, and may have to trade premium assets to keep their players.

According to a new report from Bruce Garrioch of TSN, the Oilers are exploring trades for both Brett Kulak and Cody Ceci to potentially keep both Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway.

There's multiple teams interested in taking both Kulak and Ceci in trade, but with the Oilers in extreme salary cap trouble, teams are demanding draft pick sweeteners to accommodate the deal. Garrioch reports that the Oilers could attach a first or second round draft pick along with Kulak or Ceci to get a deal done.

It would be incredibly disappointing to have to spend premium assets to move two quality NHL defenceman. However, at this time in the offseason teams have already allocated their salary cap and aren't looking to do a cup-contending team any favours.

The Edmonton Oilers still have five days left to either match the offer sheets filed from St. Louis, or take the draft pick compensation from letting the players go. Every possibility seems in the air at the moment, and the Oilers' trades and roster moves in the next week will dictate if they can keep their two RFAs.
