Many more layoffs are expected at Sportsnet, particularly on the side of radio, but they're also looking to make changes to their television broadcasts. Fans have been particularly critical of Ron MacLean in recent years, but according to YYZSportsMedia, MacLean will likely stick around for at least two more years.
The 64 year old MacLean has hosted Hockey Night in Canada for the last 38 years, and some fans are hoping for a change at the position.
Most of the coming changes at Sportsnet then don't seem too popular in their final two years of holding the majority of NHL broadcast rights in Canada. Jeff Marek was a popular figure for his radio show and 32 Thoughts Podcast, but in this dimension Sportsnet seems to believe radio is outdated and worthless. On the other hand, Ron MacLean is still on the air and he's plenty outdated.
We'll have to see in the coming weeks, but more tough changes in hockey broadcasting will be coming. Hopefully when Sportsnet's deal expires, it'll cause some much needed innovation to hockey broadcasts in Canada.
