Last night, the Montreal Canadiens called up their 2021 first round draft pick, Logan Mailloux. At the time, Mailloux had renounced his involvement in the draft because of a scandal he was indicted in.

Before being officially called up, the NHL and Gary Bettman met with Mailloux personally, and delivered the verdict that he's cleared to play. The NHL released the following statement this morning.

»We have met with Logan Mailloux multiple times over the course of the last eight to 10 months. We are comfortable that he recognizes the gravity of his prior conduct and is committed to making better and more responsible decisions in the future. He has been cleared to participate in National Hockey League play.»

While playing in Sweden in 2020, Mailloux was charged and found guilty of s****l abuse. Shortly afterwards, Mailloux renounced his standing in the NHL draft - but the Canadiens selected him anyway. He had been signed to an NHL contract in October of 2022, and it was clear from that point that the Habs planned on bringing Mailloux to the NHL quickly.

Mailloux has played one full season with the AHL's Laval Rocket with great success. In 70 games, the defenceman scored 14 goals and 47 points. He was drafted by the previous Marc Bergevin regime in Montreal, but the Habs still see Mailloux as a long term piece in the back end of their team.
