NHL insider Frank Seravalli is now reporting that tonight's game between the Calgary Flames and Los Angeles Kings will be postponed due to the wildfires affecting the city.

Wildfires are advancing along the city's edge, spanning well over 11,000 acres now and causing evacuation orders for ten of thousands of people.

The NHL is making the correct decision to prioritize public safety over the continuation of tonight's game.

The choice seemed to move extremely quickly for the NHL as the fires continue to expand. Less than an hour before, Seravalli reported the league may be considering cancelled the game.

Calgary Flames and Los Angeles Kings Game Postponed Due to Wildfires

Tonight's game can be played at a later date, and Los Angeles' Crypto Arena will very likely be okay after the blaze is controlled, but hockey is just not remotely important tonight.

Fans obviously want to watch their favourite teams play, but everyone is understanding of the decision to postpone tonight's game.

Wildfires also affect fans further north in Alberta and BC, so Flames and Oilers fans alike can all sympathize with the chaos Los Angeles is experiencing.

Postponing games for environmental emergencies has plenty of precedent in recent seasons - most recently including the Tampa Bay Lightning during a hurricane.

The game between the Flames and the Kings will be made up at a later date, and for now, fans can only hope the best for the city and people of Los Angeles.
