The NHL have been attempting several changes to their broadcasting element in which one has not been well received according to Pierre Lebrun.

So far, I would say the longer TV timeout (and shorter intermission) experiment hasn't been met with open arms by all.

Again, the NHL will de-brief after the 4 Nations to see if it's something it wants to carry into next season full-time.

But I would say the initial reaction after three games is less than enthusiastic to it. Pierre Lebrun

NHL trying other changes to game to gauge interest

The notion of having a shorter intermission may not sit well with many people including the fans and the players.

Since the game is far more intense and far speedier than it was 25 years ago, players are looking forward to their 20 minutes sitting at their stall collecting themselves or discussing issues in the room.

The league is also trying other changes including an extended overtime of 10 minutes of three on three.

While most of the fan base is loving this format as it's giving end to end action and a higher chance of not going into a shootout, several players including Team Canada's Nathan Mackinnon is not enjoying that style.

League looking to improve the fan experience with this tournament

A great fan experience is always what any professional sports league hopes for with their product as they are in the entertainment business as much as the sports business.

The NHL has been growing over the past decade and has tried different approaches to the games including the NHL World games, Different formats of the All-Star game and now the Four Nations face off.

Nathan MacKinnon said no thanks to the idea of 10 minutes OT coming to league play. Seven minutes at most, he said. Said he was absolutely gassed tonight. And I think most star players feel the same way. Pierre Lebrun

The likelihood that all these experiments will be implemented for next years are not likely. The league will take all feedback into consideration and then decide likely at their next Board of Governors meeting as the Four Nations face off will take place next year as well.

In the meantime, the fans can sit back and enjoy this best on best tournament and continue the outcome before it switches gears to Boston MA.
