It was requested by Okposo to include a $500,000 cash bonus in his contract with the Buffalo Sabres as an incentive for him to keep playing hockey. Many pundits across the league felt that he was going to retire last year but he kept going in hopes of raising the Stanley Cup.
During this year's trade deadline, he was traded to the Florida Panthers, and it appears the cup may be on the horizon. If the Florida Panthers win the Stanley Cup, Panthers ownership will be responsible for this payout and Okposo will get what he wanted.
He began his career been drafted by the New York Islanders in 2006, in the first-round 7th overall. He has only played for three organisations which began in 2007 stretching all the way to 2024. He had produced consistent numbers throughout the bulk of his career where he has played 1051 games, scoring 242 goals with 372 assists for 614 points with 554 penalty minutes.
It's crazy to think that this will only be his second time he's been in the playoffs his entire career and if the Panthers manage to knock off the Oilers either on Saturday or any other game going further, it'll be quite an accomplishment for the 36-year-old forward.
Game four will take place on Saturday June 15th and puck drop will happen at 8:00 PM eastern.
