The Edmonton Oilers have a chance to make history tonight with a miracle comeback in the Cup Final, and now the history-maker himself Wayne Gretzky has made his prediction on Game 7.
Before the start of the series, Gretzky tried his best to remain impartial of cheering for a winner. Now though, he's saying his heart has always been with Edmonton, and he's picking them to complete the comeback.
Edmonton, I picked them at the beginning, and then we were down 3-0, and I got nervous. But Florida's good. They're both good. Edmonton, I think, is just a little faster. And Florida, they're grinders and they play hard and scrappy. You know, they're just well-coached. I'm just going with my heart. - Wayne Gretzky
Being close friends with the Panthers owner and on a national broadcast, Gretzky has to remain a bit impartial, but is clearly alluding to supporting the Edmonton Oilers. Before the Cup Final began, Gretzky interviewed McDavid on TNT and wished him luck in the final games.
I just wanted to say congratulations. I know how tough it is and how much you've gone through, so I'm wishing all the best of luck in the Stanley Cup Final. - Wayne Gretzky
Tonight's Game 7 may very well be one of the most significant games played in the history of the NHL, if the Oilers complete the comeback. Through this playoffs, McDavid has cemented his legacy as one of the greatest players of all time, and it could be topped off with a Cup win.
