As the team already has Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard, a depth option in net, they aren't in a hurry to sign anyone immediately.
Elliote Friedman reports that the Edmonton Oilers are scouting all three Montreal Canadiens goalies.
With the team's thin goalie depth at the moment, any three of these would be an excellent addition.
According to Friedman, they are just doing their due diligence as they inquire about Jake Allen, Sam Montembault, and Cayden Primeau.
The team does need a solid 1B for Stuart Skinner eventually, the two teams have been trading partners previously and the last trade involved a fourth-round pick for Al Montoya, who played for the Oilers for nine games, posting a 22-2 record, a .906 save percentage, and a 2.94 GAA before retiring shortly thereafter.
Ben Scrivens was traded by the Oilers to the Habs for winger Zack Kassian in 2015, and they exchanged cash considerations for Randy Exelby for the Habs in 1989 for him to play only one game in Oilers uniform, allowing five goals in a 6-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
While the Habs would move Jake Allen before Montembault and Primeau, Allen is still a reliable goaltender with a 3-4-1 record, a.907 save percentage, and a 3.54 GAA.
At this point, they need someone sooner rather than later.
