Calgary Flames trade Andrew Mangiapane
Moments ago, news broke that the Calgary Flames have traded forward Andrew Mangiapane to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a 2025 second round draft pick.
Mangiapane was a fan-favourite player in Calgary for his speed and tenacity on the forecheck, and with his ability to score some clutch goals. He was drafted in the sixth round by the Flames back in 2015, and has gone on to play an impressive NHL career of 417 games with Calgary. He usually scores between 15-20 goals a season, but in 2021-22 went off for a career year with 35 goals.
Mangiapane was entering the final year of his contract with the Flames, and he will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Selling him off now shows that the Flames are serious about stripping down their roster to the bare bones and really trying to re-boot their roster.
The next few seasons may be extremely hard for Flames fans as they try to reconstruct their roster, and try once again to compete against the Edmonton Oilers in the playoffs.
