He proved to be the stabilizing force in the Edmonton Oilers' pre-season Battle of Alberta victory over the Calgary Flames.
With a $5 Million dollar AAV and a $25 Million dollar contract, Campbell signed a huge deal last year with the Oilers. In 36 games, he posted a meager 3.41 GAA and a .888 SV% in his first season with the Oilers.
Since then, he has put a lot of effort into improving his mental health during the summer.
It was surprising that the Oilers didn't even field their regular roster against the Calgary Flames, who looked like a rocket against them last night.
Despite this, Campbell's heroics led to a 2-1 overtime win over the Flames. His performance was promising as he stopped 34 of 35 shots, including several high-danger attempts.
Campbell has a good chance to turn things around in Oil Country, as in 2021-2022, he made the All-Star Game with the Toronto Maple Leafs, posting a 2.64 GAA and .914SSV% in 49 games.
Holland felt comfortable giving Campbell the deal because Campbell's numbers had been consistent throughout his NHL career.
It appears Campbell has finally adjusted to the new environment, despite the pressures of a new organization and expectations.
