Bob Stauffer spoke to one of Draisaitl's agents who confirmed it will be an eight year deal for the Oilers superstar. Previously, there had been reports from David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period that Draisaitl instead would be looking for a 3-5 year contract, so hearing confirmation of 8 years is fantastic for the Oilers.
Not only that, but an announcement for Draisaitl's contract must be imminent at this point. Several details of the contract have been leaking, including reports that Leon Draisaitl may even take a discount on salary to keep the team competitive. Another one of Draisaitl's agents, Jiri Poner, also said to expect a deal to finalize in August - meaning as early as next week.
The Edmonton Oilers could really use a run of good press after the controversial hiring of Stan Bowman as General Manager, and announcing a Draisaitl contract would be a great way to get some positivity back for the team, and even Bowman himself. Hopefully, an announcement is made in the next few days, and Leon Draisaitl will be an Edmonton Oiler for life.
