Jeff Jackson's work as the Oilers interim General Manager has been stellar, but earlier today, he once again shot down the possibility of staying on in the role.

On the Bob McCowan podcast, Jackson reiterated that he will hire a full time General Manager soon and step aside to act as the CEO - but still have a significant hand in the direction of the team.

«I don't wanna be the general manager. I'm an active CEO, so I'm involved in the day-to-day, but I think being with the team on a daily basis, like a GM has to do, doesn't work for me and my family, and that's a discussion I had with Darryl Katz right from the get-go.»

Not only that, but Jeff Jackson had a significant update on the GM process. The Oilers have now interviewed multiple candidates, and Jackson expects to make a decision within the next 10 days.

»I've spoken with a number of candidates and making my way through that. Hope to have a decision on that front. I don't wanna put a timeframe on it, but it's probably in the next week to 10 days.»

Right now, the leading candidates for the Oilers next General Manager appear to be Mark Hunter, Keith Gretzky, Brad Holland, Stan Bowman, and a few others. Based on Jackson's moves to this point to help out the team this season and re-stock the cupboards with prospects, Oilers fans should feel very confident in his next hire.
