The Edmonton Oilers are also in the works of creating new alternate jerseys for next season, which are also reportedly a light colour - which would line up with this update.
According to a new report Ryan Kennedy of the Hockey News, the NHL is discussing the possibility of switching back to white jerseys at home for the next collective bargaining agreement.
In addition, Kennedy raised the potential for the league to consider certain matchups with two dark jerseys. For example, the Oilers could play in their royal blue jerseys against the Flames' bright red jerseys.
The white Oilers jersey itself has such a classic look to it, and was commonly used on home ice during their dynasty seasons.
It's a small detail in the grand scheme of things, but an interesting change from the NHL that could bring some added variations to each game. Other sports leagues allow much variation in their jerseys, alternates, and colour matchups - and it's something the NHL can adopt.
The NHL's collective bargaining agreement is set to expire after the 2025-26 season, and the league and Player's Association is already holding preliminary meetings and raising some of these potential changes.
After previously adding advertisements to jerseys, the least the NHL can do is allow some more variation in jerseys for a little more entertainment for the fans.
