Auston Matthews opens up with his true thoughts on Oilers' Connor McDavid

Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews recently opened up on his developing relationship and massive respect for Oilers star Connor McDavid.
The pair of superstars recently were featured in a new ad campaign that was personally directed by the pair, which gave them an opportunity to grow closer.

There was a day when superstars on two Canadian teams would be fierce rivals, but McDavid and Matthews have a mutual respect for each other and their talents. The two actually like to occasionally talk shop.
I know for myself, spending time with him, I always find-hockey, for the most part, we talk about a lot of stuff-but I just find getting his perspective on different things is pretty cool. You learn a lot just by bouncing things off of each other. He is who he is because of the work ethic he puts in, and he's obviously a special talent with the consistency and everything like that. I just find anytime I spend time with him, I'm always learning different things.

While the two players do have a mutual respect, even Matthews concedes that McDavid is unanimously the most talented player in the league.
Matthews recognized McDavid's talent, but also majorly commended his work ethic and drive to be the best, which actually produces the Oilers superstars otherworldly results.
Obviously, his skill set-nobody really has that kind of skill set. Just hearing how he thinks the game or maybe how he likes whatever-where his wingers are on the breakout, different stuff like that. It's always interesting to hear his perspective
So much of McDavid's dominance comes from his innate ability, but it would never be realized without the intense amount of work he puts in to better himself - and other players are taking notice.
It's interesting to hear the superstars actually do bounce ideas and perspectives off each other, especially when Edmonton and Toronto could conceivably be a Cup Final matchup.
