According to Bruce Curlock, a prospect expert for OilersNation, Roby Jarventie could already slot into the Oilers top three prospects in the organization. Along with Matthew Savoie, the Oilers added two of their top three prospects in trades this offseason.
Plenty of scouts are sharing reports of being extremely high on Jarventie's ability to become an NHL player. He missed time with a significant knee injury that is still impacting him, but in his time in the AHL he produced near a point per game. Ross Levitan of the Locked on Sens Podcast called Jarventie a blue-chip prospect, praised his elite shot and offensive talent, and predicted him to be a 20 goal player in the NHL. His nickname among fans was Roby Red Light' for his scoring.
Jarventie is just three months older than Xavier Bourgault and has produced at a much better rate in the AHL than Bourgault. Some Oilers prospect watchers were sounding the alarm bell on Bourgault's decline, and in this move, it seems like the Oilers cut ties on one project and picked up a more promising one.
By all indications, this seems like another fantastic move by Jeff Jackson as the head of the Edmonton Oilers. Not only is he adding assets to help the team win now, but he's clearing out and rebuilding the prospect pool which has been ranked poorly in previous years. After firing a head scout and clearing out Holland's prospects, Jackson is really turning the entire Oilers franchise in a more positive direction.
