Moments ago, a new report surfaced from Rick Dhaliwal of the Donnie and Dhali show that the Edmonton Oilers are making a late push to take a serious run at acquiring Chris Tanev from the Calgary Flames.

According to Zach Laing of OilersNation, several reports have linked the Oilers to Tanev in recent months, and even years. Oilers GM Ken Holland is reportedly very interested in what Tanev brings to a contending team as a veteran right handed stay at home defenceman.

Now 34 years old and a veteran of 768 career NHL games, Tanev is lauded around the league for his hard-nosed game and his competitive nature. Certainly he plays a style of game that bodes well for the playoffs, which means every team is trying to take a shot at acquiring Tanev - and wouldn't want to see him go to a divisional rival. He's owed just $4.5M for the rest of this season before becoming a free agent, a very manageable contract for any contending team.

According to OilersNation's article, the Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Dallas Stars are the teams currently most interested in Tanev. It's believed right now that he'll only cost a second round draft pick to acquire in trade.
