The Battle of Alberta is going to get interesting in the next few years, as Brad Treliving recently left the Calgary Flames.

Along with getting a new GM in the future, the Calgary Flames are getting what they finally wanted.

The Flames will be getting a new Arena and get to ditch the outdated Saddledome. The province of Alberta struck a sweet $1.22 Billion deal with N. Murray Edwards today and while there are no plans or designs on hand currently, things are looking up for MacKenzie Weegar.

The split will be 44% CSE and 56% and alongside the new arena will be infrastructure for the community built alongside it. There will be a rink built for amateur games and it will be used for Flames practices as well.

That site 14th Avenue and 5th Street S.E. is where the new arena will be built, alongside a smaller community rink for amateur games and Flames practices. The surrounding area will be redeveloped with a «suite of public amenities and public infrastructure,» officials said.

«A new event centre in Calgary is more than just a building. It's foundational infrastructure,» said Coun. Sonya Sharp, who chaired the city's committee tasked with reaching a new deal.

For now, there is no timetable for the build, but this sounds like a step up to the idea proposed beforehand by Flames ownership.
