Martin St.Louis to Bench One of His Players For Breaking a Standard Respect Rule
Martin St. Louis, the Head Coach of the Montreal Canadiens, has been emphasizing the importance of accountability to his team. He believes in the same principles that led him to success during his playing career and he encourages his players to do the same. Consequently, he strictly enforces the team rules.
The day after a disappointing 9-5 loss to the Florida Panthers, Jonathan Drouin was late for a mandatory team meeting, which is considered unacceptable in the NHL. This situation is similar to when Tyler Seguin was healthy scratched by Boston coach Claude Julien in 2011 for oversleeping the team's breakfast and meeting earlier that day.
After Drouin's late arrival, St. Louis refused to address whether the forward would be playing for the Canadiens the following day, demonstrating his commitment to enforcing team rules and maintaining accountability.
